Sarah Johnson is a relatively new find for me. Funnily enough I didn’t find her through the usual channels of twitter or flickr. I came across her work on Tumblr. It was fashion and commercial photography which lured me into this art form and Sarah’s work in this area is stunning. Let get into it!
Tell us a little about yourself
What can I say here? I am a little eccentric, friendly, always out to help people, loyal, into so many things i find it hard to do everything I want to but addicted to photography and retouching. I am usually messy and impatient, im working on this! but for some reason have endless hours of patience when sat perfecting skin in photoshop, i really don’t know where this came from!? I am also into skiing, yoga, acting and reading. I’m super into health food and spirituality and consider myself Buddhist as the values suit my way of life is this what you wanted?! lol
What made you get into photography & How did you get started?
I started out doing English Literature and German at University but quickly realised i hated it and spiraled into depression so I started a new course at a different University in Graphic Design, although life at the uni was amazing I hated my course, the teachers, the other students, I just felt so different to themI was all into crazy ideas and they were all neat and perfect. I always remember rocking up in low slung flares and pink court shoes while everyone else was in diesel jeans and trainers thinking, im just on the wrong course here! anyway i digress I was not enjoying that course either, but more than the last and I felt I had to stick it out, there were some canon powershots in the department you could hire out and in my final year on a group project someone had hired one for ours and was taking macros of bag textures I was engrossed I started borrowing the camera all the time and driving all around the midlands taking landscapes and macros of flowers, till he used to give me a discount. I’d then photoshop them and put them on an art sharing site called deviantart
It became my new addiction and i’d spend hours in photoshop taking pictures of the water dripping from taps and photoshoping it I’d then try to find ways to incorporate the images into my graphic design work. This moved onto a lot of self portraits and pics of willing friends in my corridor. This somehow got me into modelling and eventually photography!
What sort of photography do you mainly do?
Fashion, beauty, fine art and commercial but I am genuinely interested in everything and do food, films, musicians, bands, events, locations but my website is streamed to the first.
What gear are you using?

Whats your favourite lens and why?
1.2 85 mm, before that i was using the 1.8 I don’t have tons of lenses i use that for almost everything and then i have a zoom lens and I have macro for beauty I would like some more!
How are you marketing yourself?
A lot of my friends help me here, my friends are my best sales people ever, they are always bringing me stuff, I am so so rubbish at cold calling and stuff but I am good at networking and emailing lol! i also have been in talks with an agency for a while.
