Like all my great finds, I found Brian through flickr, which lead me to his website. His site wasn’t built in flash, it had no auto playing music, and his work was great. He ticked all the right boxes for me.
Tell us a little about yourself?
I am 6’ 2’ 124 pounds and very high energy. I love to spontaneously drop everything and get in my car with friends for adventures. I am an avid cook and enjoy emptying my fridge and cooking man feasts. I like to get out and meet new people, I have no problem talking to strangers and often take their candy.
What made you get into photography?
My journey in photography started with my love for meeting new people and going to interesting places. I would always be out exploring old abandoned buildings and houses out in the woods. I felt a need to share these places with people without letting them know where they were as that usually ended up in some nutcase demolishing the place with a golf club. so I picked up photography. The natural progression got me started on shooting friends who were with me exploring these places and after a bit I fell in love with my camera and the experience of a shoot.
How did you get started?
Very simply haha. I remember shooting with my Rebel XS and kit lens lots of random pictures of friends. The results weren’t always spectacular but I stuck with it. I was very inspired by random photos I would see online and always try to recreate their results.
What sort of photography do you mainly do?
Traveling Florida from Miami to Orlando almost weekly I run into a seeming never ending supply of attractive broads who wish to be photographed. When I am not grinding through that torturous task I shoot weddings, families, and senior portraits. The last three predominately paying my bills.
What gear are you using?
I shoot with a Canon 5D MK II. My preferred lenses are 85mm F1.8 50mm F1.4 and a 24-70 F2.8
My lighting consists of 3 AB800’s One AB1600 One ABR800 and two 430EX II’s with the Cybersync battery model triggering system.
My modifiers consist of 64” and 86” PLM, 46” octo box, 60” softbox, 22” beauty dish (old school), 4 grids, and the 56” Moon unit for my ABR.
Whats your favourite lens and why?
I love my Canon 50mm 1.4 but I will be purchasing the Canon 70-200 2.8 II IS very soon and I am simply in love with that sucker.
How are you marketing yourself?
I used to work at an 900 employee hospital, and got my biggest word of mouth boost from there. Facebook is a must for me at the moment my fan page rings in at 1,216 and my friends on my personal page at around (3063) between these three mediums I am able to network quite well.
Whats your favourite photo you have taken?
I would have to go with a tie between this shot of Kristina and the following shot of Chris.
This shoot with Kristina was for me a tipping point where I felt I might actually have a shot at doing this photo thing for the rest of my life. I had way too much fun just running all over town with this girl and a trunk full of outfits.
This was an early shot of mine and my first time working with a makeup artist. Chris was a bonus on this shoot and had just happened to want to go along with the other two girls I had planned on shooting. I have always liked this shot a lot but wished I still had the RAW file… My editing was a bit wonky back then.
Advice for new photographers looking to go pro?
Be aware of your skill level charge accordingly. Do not let clients walk all over you. You have worked very hard to get the equipment and knowledge you have. Don’t let other photographers in your area get to you just shine and your clients will come. Keep practicing your lighting and editing techniques because at the end of the day control over your lighting and giving a shot that extra pop is what makes a client want to hire you over their cousin karl with a camera.
