I always find it funny when a photographer tells me they don’t have a favourite photo which they’ve taken, but I suppose when you take a ton of really great shots it’s hard to pick the best. Matt is a food photographer and very active blogger about food, drink and everything else. Check out what he has to say.
Tell us a little about yourself?
I am a blogger and photographer from Long Beach, California. I’m obsessed with food and happen to like a few other things like travel, music, dinner parties, etc. I’m a simple kinda guy 🙂
What made you get into photography?
I was an art director and graphic designer for many years, the progression into photography was a natural evolution!
How did you get started?
I was an art director before moving into photography and for a creative person being able to communicate a vision and idea is crucial. However, the work I was getting wasn’t matching up with what I was seeing my my mind, through no fault of anyone’s but my own! It was at that point that I realized in order to get exactly what I wanted from photography that I’d have to become a photographer. I picked up a camera and haven’t put it down since!
What sort of photography do you mainly do?
I am mainly a food photographer. I shoot cookbooks, editorial assignments, advertising jobs, but 95% of them revolve around food.
What gear are you using?
Depends on the job but I alternate between a Canon 5D Mark II and a Hasselblad H3D.
Whats your favourite lens and why?
I like anything macro — it allows me to get really close if needed and I can always back up as well 🙂
How are you marketing yourself?
My blog is my biggest marketing effort but I do have a professional photo website.
Whats your favourite photo you have taken?
I couldn’t pick a favorite, that’s too difficult! It’d be like selecting my favorite food and that’d be impossible!
