Tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Priscilla Gragg, I am 29 years old, raised and born in Brazil, daughter and granddaughter of photographers. I came to the US when i was 22 years old for an exchange program, i lived in Vail, CO where i met my better half Joel = ) We dated, got engaged, married and now we are pregnant! We live in San Diego and I am passionate about people’s lifestyle around here! I am a happy person who loves to be surrounded by friends and family. First thing I do in the morning is to turn the music on (this used to really annoy my sister, thankful it doesn’t annoy my husband! hahaha). The images i produce are happy, energetic, fun, fresh, hip, warm, feminine and colorful… they truly reflect the person that I am = )
What made you get into photography?
After backpacking for 6 months and taking thousands of pictures I decided to give photography a try. Photography felt very natural especially when you are raised surrounded by Rolleiflex, Mamiya, film, strobes, etc. I was never pushed or forced into becoming a photographer… it all happened very naturally.
How did you get started?
For the first 3 months when i moved to California with my husband I wasn’t allowed to get a job (immigration rules), that’s when i got my first SLR camera, a Canon 40d, and started playing with it. I was very disappointed because i did not know anything about photography and i thought that just by buying an expensive camera i would be able to get amazing results! I took a photography class that didn’t teach me anything because of all the different levels from the students. I put the camera down for a bit and got a job at the Apple Store. There i met amazing, talented people that were humble enough to share tips and tricks with me. Then i went back to photography and started shooting again. I never stopped since then.
What sort of photography do you mainly do?
People’s lifestyle. I shoot commercially, for stock and clients (www.priscillagragg.com) and also a bit for consumer (www.priscillagragg.com/portraits).
What gear are you using?
For cameras and lens all Canon. Computer Apple. Storage Drobo. I mainly shoot outdoors, natural light, so i don’t have much for lighting gear.
Whats your favourite lens and why?
Recently i have been shooting a lot with the 28mm 1.8 … because i like to be real close to my subject and get interesting angles.
How are you marketing yourself?
In the past year I’ve worked with an amazing art consultant, Amanda Sosa Stone (http://www.sosastone.com/) and she built a custom marketing plan for my business… it involves mailing, epromos, cold calls, meetings and special mailing like this one: http://priscillagragg.com/blog/?p=4001
