I came across Viktoria’s work on flickr and couldn’t wait to see what she had to say in the RAW interview. So here we go.
Tell us a little about yourself?
I’m a young german photographer mainly focused on beauty, fashion and lifestyle photography.
What made you get into photography?
My mum used to photograph a lot when I was a kid and I always was fascinated of it. Early at school I then took a photography class where I learned to work at the darkroom – developed my own films, made my own prints – that was mainly the beginning of my interest in photography.
How did you get started?
It really started when I bought my first DSLR from the money I got at my 18th birthday. It was a Canon EOS 350D and I started to photography everything around me: My family, friends, nature, events, .and so on. After school I applied at a school to work on my portfolio to get into university afterwards. Being at university and finally studying and being together with people who love photography themselves, I felt very inspired and started to do shooting beauty and fashion stuff.
What sort of photography do you mainly do?
Mainly doing beauty stuff because I’m in love with the change makeup can to with the face and body. You are more into feeling and emotions because your camera captures only a small part of the model and is very close to it….
What gear are you using?
I’m using a Canon 5D Mark II with mainly two lenses (EF 24-105mm 1:4 L IS USM and EF 70-200mm 1:2,8 L IS USM) and of course my lightning system from Bowens.
Whats your favourite lens and why?
Well, depends on the subjects … Because I only have these two lenses mentioned above, I choose between them and use both very often.
How are you marketing yourself?
I’m registered at a lot of communitys like Flickr, Deviant Art, Facebook, ModelMayhem, … to get connected to many photographers, models, stylists and makeup artists around the world. A good connection is very important and I love to be inspired by the work of others.
Whats your favourite photo you have taken?
That’s hard to say because I’m still learning with every shooting and the results get better and better. Therefor there isn’t the one picture. I quite still like my shooting from beginning of 2010 where I photographed a beauty series with the title “Glossy” for university.
Advice for new photographers looking to go pro?
Practice and never give up 😉
