If your lucky enough to be in Columbus, OH around August 13th – 20th then stop by my good friend Kevin Deskins lighting workshops being held at Midwest photo exchange. Kevin’s RAW interview is coming up early next month so stay tuned. More details about the workshops after the jump. 🙂
Off Camera Flash 101: Getting Started with Your Gear
This beginner class overviews the importance of using and modifying off camera flash in photography. Students learn how their cameras adjust light coming into the camera, and how it relates to flash photography. It teaches differences between TTL and Manual lighting, and especially how to get better images with flashes.
Photographers also learn the three key parts to using off camera flash:
Hardware (light stands, grip equipment, etc),
Triggering (radio, infrared, hardwired, etc.), and
Modification is a large segment of the class. There is specific focus on how different modifiers effect light. It briefly overviews a custom 2 light kit; what each item is used for and carrying case options.
Off Camera Flash 102:Advanced Lighting Technique and Live Shoot
This subsequent class reviews off Camera Flash 101 briefly and picks up where we left off at the custom 2 light kit. Photographers learn how to successfully incorporate manual speedlights with their photography.
It explicates lighting patterns, fill light, and background light techniques; with reviews on balancing ambient and flash light. It includes a live shoot with a model; demonstrating the custom 2 light kit, as well as some more simple lighting set ups.
It’s recommended for photographers who took Off Camera Flash 101 or have an intermediate understanding of lighting.
