Angel contacted me with his portfolio so as usual and checked it out and noticed he does some cool things in photoshop. He’s not one to let gear get in the way using a simple 50 1.8 as his main lens, which is great to see. Anyway enjoy.

What made you get into photography?
Social Networks, it all started with myspace. Just taking photos and retouching them for teenage vanity. As a teenager i loved the media and online attention i got on my profile pages, the comments, the views and all the appreciation i got on my photos just made me a “camera whore”. Then Senior year of high school it hit me, what was i going to do with my life? I decided why not go study something im already good at, make my self better, and turn my hobby into a career, so that i did.
How did you get started?
In high school almost every girl is an “inspiring model” so i grabbed one of my good friends Cierra Loggins and planed a shoot with her in Ybor City, Fl. She did her own Hair, Make up, and brought her own clothes. I shot her with a 7.1 mega pixel power shot canon camera. That camera was all i could afford for a long time, as a young artist about to graduate i didnt have enough for a DSLR. I did many test shoots in florida with that little $250 camera. All of my test shoots had creative concepts, for all my shoots i was my own wardrobe stylist, traveling from flea market to flea market hustling trying to find interesting props and wardrobe. As far as hair and make up, luckly my models knew how to take care of that for the most part. But being my own stylist was not easy, especially when the money for the wardrobe is coming out of your pocket. One trick i used to do for returning shoes was put duck tape on the bottom of my models high heels, boots, ect, and return the shoes like brand new. Later i was introduced to Model Mayhem, i used that site alot to find models, hair stylist, make up artist what ever i needed. As a Young photographer the only studio space i had access to was my schools photography studio when i went to the International Academy Of Design And Technology which only was granted to the photographers in the photography program and i was in the graphic design program but i managed to pull a couple strings and get my way in sometimes. So for the most part i shot outside/natural photography with my models.

Advice for new photographers looking to go pro?
Ask your self this, are you willing to give up everything you own including your home, family, school, friends for a new life and a new career/your dream? If you thought about it then your not ready, i dropped out of school, sold my car, and came to NYC to follow my dreams in becoming one of the worlds youngest famous artist. Maybe your dreaming small and dont want to move to another state or country to get recognized you just want to shoot little things like events, parties, ect. Well this advice isnt for you because im not that kind of photographer. To all my big dreamers out there who want to shoot billboard Ads, Magazine Covers ect, first you have to MOVE! For example if your dream is to shoot Winter sport photography cause you love to capture the snow in the air as a snow boarder rushes down a hill, you cant be living in florida or texas, you need to take that huge step and move to the place thats best for your photography to be discovered. Step number two is get a team/support group. You cant do nothing in this world alone especially become a well known artist, or photographer. In step two you will have two support groups a personal one (friends, and family) and a professional one (make up artist, hair stylist, ect.). Once you have these two teams working side by side with you create this confidence not only in your self but in your work, this is what will keep you motivated because trust me the beginning is the when you’ll need these support groups the most. Step 3 is promoting your self, no one will know your name if you dont open your mouth, or laptop and tell people it! If you want the wind to blow work into your home first you have to open up all your doors and windows! Once that’s done you everything starts falling into place, by networking many people will recognize your work and want to book you for photo-shoots. Be strong, surround your self by strong people who want to see you at your strongest, and dont half ass your dream.
