You did read right her name is Bliss. She is a 21 year old full time photographer, with some great advice. Enjoy 🙂
Tell us a little about yourself?
My real name is Bliss. I’m a 21 year old full time photographer who lives in Central Florida, originally from Atlanta/Chicago. I try to travel as much as possible. I have wanderlust.
What made you get into photography?
Traveling so much with my mother and father since I was little made me interested in taking photographs. My dad would always give me full reign with his cameras when we went to beautiful places, and seeing how it always turned out made me excited. I think reading lots of magazines in my early teen years made an impact as well.
How did you get started?
I started shooting for fun when I was very young. My family would travel frequently for my dads job and my joy came from playing with the film cameras. I didn’t show full interest until I was about 15, when I began shooting models and bands for fun on the weekends. By the time I was 17 I had magazine offers and was getting paid shoots. I was enrolled in college during high school for one year where I took two photography classes although, I honestly didn’t learn much from them. Since then I’ve taught myself over the years. I guess I’m stubborn.
What sort of photography do you mainly do?
I adore photographing people. Humans are so fascinating. This earth is beautiful too, but when I capture people I feel like I’m trapping a feeling, memory, and beauty that isn’t like any other. That to me is what keeps me excited. I mostly shoot models, bands, weddings, or anything that is creatively inspiring someone.
What gear are you using?
I own too many cameras but these are what I use the most –
Cameras: (soon to get the 5D Markii in a week or 2), Canon 550D, Canon Rebel G (film), Polaroid 103 Land Camera, Oktomat film
Lenses: 50mm 1.8 II, 50mm 1.4, Pentax 50mm 1.2, 135mm
Whats your favourite lens and why?
I personally love the feeling of using 50mm’s, the 1.4 is the perfect feel of dreamy, but for a zoom lens I loved the 24-70mm
How are you marketing yourself?
Mostly all online. Tumblr // Facebook // Twitter // Flickr. I do have many local people who see my work through others but I try to keep an online base because I love meeting people from all over and creating opportunities outside of where I live.
Whats your favourite photo you have taken?
This photo is of a friend and model, Erin Pappadeas. This is one of my more basic shots. It was photographed for a fashion collection from designer and collector, Myla Wiley. I just love how the sundown lighting shines through the drapery and how the light reflects the model’s skin. I had an image in my mind at the time and this was exactly it. I just love the realness of it.
Advice for new photographers looking to go pro?
Don’t stop shooting. Don’t allow discouragement and fear trouble your dreams. Yes, there’s millions of photographers out there, but you could make all of the difference at least in someone’s life. Create what you feel, not what you see. It doesn’t matter how many people are looking at you, just know it makes all the difference to inspire one person through your work.
