I love it when young photographers send me emails telling me how much they love RAW. Brittni was one of them. Turns out she attached her website address so I headed over for a quick look. The rest is history, enjoy!
Tell us a little about yourself?
Well hello! My name is Brittni Willie & I am 21 years old from West Haven, Utah! Some of my favorite things to do are reading, eating, finding new music and meeting new people.
What made you get into photography?
I have always loved photography and different ways of trying to get into peoples minds… I hope I can show that through my work. When I was younger I had the strongest desire to become an artist but couldn’t paint or draw to save my life. When I picked up a camera I realized I could picture something in my mind and create just that!
How did you get started?
My parents bought me a Nikon D40 as a high school graduation gift and after a few years of messing around with that I decided I was ready for something better and wanted to pursue it more. I studied all different cameras online and on flickr and came to the conclusion that if I wanted something better I was definitely going to have to return the same quality – that’s when I started seriously thinking about it. After about 6 months of no inspiration I feel like i’m finally back in the game and ready to pump out some awesome new things!
What sort of photography do you mainly do?
I am mostly interested in portrait work, however being from Utah we have lots of weddings so I do a lot of that as well. 🙂
What gear are you using?
Canon EOS 5D Mark ii, 28mm 1.8, 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8
Whats your favourite lens and why?
That’s a tough one – up until I got my 85mm a week or so ago it would be my 28mm without a doubt! I love that it’s a wide-angle but doesn’t distort any of my images. Also, the bokeh and quick focus of that lens is incredible. One of the best lenses for price & value in my opinion.
How are you marketing yourself?
Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Blogspot, Business Cards & word of mouth between my friends and family!
Whats your favourite photo you have taken?
A photo of my beautiful sister, this was my first day with my new 85mm 1.8 and after this set I knew I had made the right decision in purchasing it.
Advice for new photographers looking to go pro?
Lurk flickr and tumblr… that’s where I have found most of my inspiration and technique. Also – make friends with other photogs! You all learn from each other. And especially, don’t let anyone discourage you.
