Short and sweet but as I always say if you learn one thing or come up with one idea from reading what other people are doing then your on the right track. Meredith has some good advice like not getting stuck in the technical side of things.
Tell us a little about yourself?
I’m 19 years old, and going to be a sophomore in college. Basically, I love the Lord, coffee shops, art galleries, bike rides, pints of Ben + Jerry’s.. oh and photography, too.
What made you get into photography?
I’ve enjoyed taking pictures for years, but in middle school a photographer came to our school and taught us a bit about photography and I thought it was interesting. Then, for my 8th grade project I made it all about photography and shot images with my mom’s film camera. I think that’s basically when it all began.
How did you get started?
I got a Canon Powershot and just started shooting away in 9th grade. I got a lot of encouragement from people to continue, and it was something I really enjoyed.
What sort of photography do you mainly do?
Portraits! I love the emotion you can capture in people’s faces and how you can make them feel beautiful with the images you take.
What gear are you using?
Canon Rebel XS and a 50mm f1.8 lens. All the time.
Whats your favourite lens and why?
I love the lens I use, but recently I fell in love with the 24mm f1.4. I love lenses with wide apertures because I absolutely love bokeh and lens flares. You will see that a lot in my photography.
How are you marketing yourself?
My facebook page really got me started. I totally recommend making a facebook page even if you don’t have a blog yet. It really starts word of mouth marketing and let’s numerous people stumble across your images.
Whats your favourite photo you have taken?
I think the answer to this question changes all the time for me, from shoot to shoot. But here’s one that I really enjoy.
Advice for new photographers looking to go pro?
Don’t be so technical about it. It’s art. Have fun. Have it be your passion, and not just your “job”.
