With the world of digital processing expanding on almost a daily basis I thought it would be interesting to hear from someone who considers herself a digital artist rather then a photographer. Nathalia is a photographer but considers herself a digital dark artist so enjoy her work. Let me know if you’ve started doing any photo manipulations outside the usual editing.

Tell us a little about yourself?
I’m digital dark artist and photographer from Brazil, 22 years old.
What inspired you to get started in photography?
I was always fascinated for dark art and fashion photography, after leaving the high school I started doing my own stuff.
What gear do you take to each shoot and what lens can you not live without?
I love 80mm 1.4 lens. Actually I love any 1.4 lens. They are really good. Besides that, I think flash is essencial, even though you are not going to use it, it’s a must have.
How do you market yourself and has social media been an important part?
I try to promote my artwork everywhere. I think social media is a very important tool for those who need special attention and want to have your work recognized. Also,it’s always a good way to improve your skills and find other good artists as you. I do support social medias.
What’s your favourite photo that you’ve taken and does it have any significance?
Select a photo you have taken, explain how it was taken and how did you edit it?
Queen of Hearts was a pretty hard art. I remember to spend some long hours cutting that dress. However was a good experience to use me as a model for the first time ever. If I’m right that art was done for a contest of something related to Alice in Wonderland and my main idea was to make something really dark and macabre. The contest was all about how my wonderland would be and that was the result.

What processing tool do you use and do you believe in the camera doing all the work or in post ?
As a digital artist (photomanipulator) I always want to do something else but shooting. I’m fascinated to collage, I think it’s even better than painting ’cause you able to create something surreal using something real. Does it make sense? Of course I do love pure photography but that’s not my work so I can’t say more about it. My work is to transform photography in something else, so camera doesn’t do all the work, not for me.
Whats your favourite photography accessory other than your camera?
Lightbox, I think it’s essencial for a home studio like mine.
Where do you prefer to post your photos online and why there?
Deviantart, ’cause we have more exposure.
Do you ever get photographers block and if so what do you do to get inspired again?
Yes, very often and I think it’s normal. Sometimes we get tired and we just need to rest a little bit.
Is there anything you wish you had done when you first started in photography that would’ve made a difference?
I guess no. It’s never too late to do something.
Any advice for new photographers wanting to go pro?
Forget the art-photography trendy, do what you like, believe in what you do. Doesn’t really matter what people think.

As a digital artist that expresses her idea of photography in a new and fascinating way, she definitely got my attention. I love the way she captures the moment then creates what she wants to see through digital manipulation
