Micro four thirds talk on the RAW Live Facebook group is quite healthy, so if any of you out there want to join a group drop by you’ll fit right in. Anyway it seems that Olympus is releasing a 17mm f2.8 just in time for Christmas.
The 17mm or 34mm in old terms, f2.8 will sell for $500.00. With that focal length it’s a perfect street photography, landscape and general walk around lens.
It is a beautiful looking piece of glass, with it’s all-metal construction and length of just 1.4 inches, manual focusing ring and distance/depth of field indicators on the barrel (perfect for zone focusing). For the video buffs out there you’ll be pleased to know that it has Movie and Still Compatible autofocus.
Much like the old Tamron 70-200 2.8 the 17mm features a snap focus mechanism or as I like to call it the shotgun method of switching between manual and autofocus. Slide the ring back for manual focus and to reveal the depth of field and distance scales. Slide it forward for full auto goodness.
How many of you are going to be wanting to find this in your stocking this Christmas?
