As a photographer there will be a time when you need to shoot some sort of video footage. It doesn’t matter if it’s just for a personal project, behind the scenes, or something for a client eventually the need will be there.
Up until now to take advantage of RAW DNG output you required to have a 5D Mark III or II however an EOSHD forum user, Julian Huijbregts has shown it’s possible with a 5 year old Canon 50D which sells on ebay for about $500.00.
I’m sure there are plenty of RAW readers out there that have a 50D laying around. The 50D which was released around the same time as the 5D mkII has always had video capability however like most things with Canon it was locked out via firmware. Huijbregts was able to shoot at resolutions up to 1592×720 with no frame skipping using a SanDisk 32GB 95MB/s card @ 24fps.
This version of ML is very new and there is no word yet on when it will make the public release however i’m sure there are many people around the world extremely excited.
