The Hoodman HoodLoupe is a cool little accessory that has managed to make its way into my bag on an almost permanent basis. A good accessory needs to sold a problem. I don’t know about you but often when I’m out on location shooting I don’t always shoot tethered.
Which means I do most of my reviewing on the small LCD screen at the back of the camera. I know it’s terrible but sometimes you just can’t avoid it. I’m sure there are a heap of RAW readers out there that shoot and review on their LCD screens I mean that’s what they are there for.
There is one problem when out and about, it’s the sun. Once we’ve figured out how to tame it for our photoshoot we still have the problem of viewing that little LCD screen. This process is usually aided by an assistant or even yourself trying to block the sun. It works, kind of.
In comes the Hoodman HoodLoupe or as most people call it the Hoodman Loupe. I think the best way to describe it is, a portable viewfinder. It allows you to view your LCD screen with a viewfinder.
Here have a look at this produce demo video.
For the tech sticklers out there here are the specs. Yes the Loupe has specs
- 1:1 Diopter Magnification
- +3 Diopter Adjustment
- German Glass Optics
I’ve found it to be a really useful gadget to have. If you haven’t tried one out I highly recommend it. With Fathers Day around the corner this could be the perfect gift for your Dad. There are various sizes depending on what sort of camera you have so I recommend heading into Camera Electronic and the team there will put you on the right track.
