This is more than just a “learn how to shoot a model in a studio” workshop. This is an entire photoshoot production. We want to give you everything you need to know to properly plan and execute a photoshoot so you’re ecstatic with the results. We’ll kick things off in the morning talking about concepts and how to bring those concepts to reality through a photo shoot.
We’ll then work through 8 lighting setups. We’ll look at how to set them up, the results they give and how to add more punch to each one. We’ll discuss how to shape the light with different modifiers such as softboxes, octobanks, beauty dishes, grids and reflectors.
Our next stage is model direction. We’ve changed this up a bit to give you an even better understanding in how to work with your model. You’ll also be learning techniques to help bring out the all-important emotion from your model and we will share some simple tricks that will flatter any Model. During this section of the workshop Mona will be teaching you how to work with a model and guide her into poses while Tristan will be outlining things to look out for through the viewfinder, in relation to composition and posing.
From there we move into shooting the Concept(s) for the day. We look at wardrobe, lighting, and how we can uses these along with Props to bring our concept to reality. You will all have a go of not only shooting but setting up the lights, picking the wardrobe and generally putting the shoot(s) together. We’ll be there every step of the way coaching you through the entire process.
Finally one of the most important stages in a photoshoot, the retouching. We’ll look at what makes a good photo and how to go about picking your “keepers”. Then we’ll be using Lightroom and Photoshop (If you use Bridge or Aperture instead of Lightroom that’s cool) for retouching. You’ll learn advanced skin retouching, the power of dodge and burn, colour correction, contrast and sharpening to give your images the WOW factor.
The whole day will be completely hands on with plenty of time for questions and at the end of it you’ll get some amazing images to add to your portfolio.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to flick us an email.
What past participants thought
This was one of the most intense, information filled one day, all day photo workshop I’ve attended.
Starting at 9am, ending at 6PM
Very intense, information rich, well paced Studio Workshop run by Mona and Tristan Jud.
Lesson plans by Tristan Jud were well organized, and paced so that if there were any questions, answers were provided.
Concise and informative notes were given for quick and future referral as needed.
Mona Jud gave us instruction on how to gather a library of model poses, and for the shyer ones, advise on how to direct the model to get the photo you want. The workshop attendance was kept to 5
people to make sure no one felt rushed.
After we ran the gamut of poses, then came the ‘hard stuff’, where we learned a bit more about Photoshop (I personally had issues with how to use Adjustment Layers, which were cleared up on the day).
And Bonus: Tristan Jud scheduled a live webcast of the post processing done in Photoshop, allowing everyone who might not have had PhotoShop or Lightroom on their computer on the day another go to
learn the photo processing method.
I highly recommend this for the intermediate to advanced photographers, or someone who’s very well versed about their specific camera.
Very enjoyable day and came away with the knowledge that I was seeking. Excellent effort by all.
Hi Tristan & Mona,
Thanks for the additional notes, will need to go through them slowly, and it will certainly help getting my photoshop skills up to date.
Also special thanks for the great day we spent on Saturday, while not all of what you were teaching was new to me, I was able to glean if not improve some of what I like to do, or have been doing. certainly a top day for someone who is new to studio lighting and photography, I certainly enjoyed the posing tips etc from Mona, certainly enjoyed the creativity of her dress design, make up and hair. well done. a very enjoyable day.
