Have you ever tried your hand at studio photography but found that your images just fell short of your expectations? If this sounds like you or you have always wanted to get into studio photography then RAW STUDIO – Studio Photography workshop is a must. This is not just a learn how to light a model type workshop. This is an entire photoshoot where we walk you through everything from planning the concepts, liaising with hair and make up, also understanding styling and most importantly posing. All this to make your idea a reality and that’s before we even pick up a camera. Then we move into the fun stuff, lighting, shooting and of course post processing. Wait till you see the concepts we have planned for you guys to shoot!
This is a workshop and photoshoot experience rolled into one
Learn lots of useful tips on posing, styling, concepts, lighting, composition and post processing. What you learn during the day you can incorporate into your location or studio based photography. You’ll also walk away with some amazing images, we have a hair and makeup scheme that is going to be AWESOME!
We’ve re-jigged this part of the workshop to bring you even more posing awesomeness. We are going to walk you through a shoot as such. As we are shooting we’ll point out what is working what isn’t and how to fix it. Obviously this all changes depending on the fashion, hair, makeup and overall look that we are trying to achieve during the workshop.
We’ll walk you through ways of guiding a model into the pose you want and how to work your way up to the shot your looking for.
Lighting Lighting Lighting!
The beauty of shooting in a studio is you have complete control over the lighting. On the day you’ll learn 8 lighting setups that will instantly make your images look awesome. We’ll also walk through the different modifiers and how they effect the final look so that you can make that creative decision and get the results you want.
These 8 lighting setups are awesome on their own but just in case you want to push yourself, you’ll learn some easy ways that you can supercharge them to increase the awesomeness.
Finishing your images is just as important as shooting them. Give your photos the love they deserve by spending some time in the digital darkroom post processing. You’ll learn skin retouching that retains the texture, dodging and burning, contrast and sharpening methods that will give your images that professional finished feel to them.
We’ll be using Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS6. If you use Photoshop CC that’s cool and for those of you who use Aperture or Bridge instead of Lightroom you’ll still be able to play along.
What past participants thought
This was one of the most intense, information filled one day, all day photo workshop I’ve attended.
Starting at 9am, ending at 6PM
Very intense, information rich, well paced Studio Workshop run by Mona and Tristan Jud.
Lesson plans by Tristan Jud were well organized, and paced so that if there were any questions, answers were provided.
Concise and informative notes were given for quick and future referral as needed.
Mona Jud gave us instruction on how to gather a library of model poses, and for the shyer ones, advise on how to direct the model to get the photo you want. The workshop attendance was kept to 5
people to make sure no one felt rushed.
After we ran the gamut of poses, then came the ‘hard stuff’, where we learned a bit more about Photoshop (I personally had issues with how to use Adjustment Layers, which were cleared up on the day).
And Bonus: Tristan Jud scheduled a live webcast of the post processing done in Photoshop, allowing everyone who might not have had PhotoShop or Lightroom on their computer on the day another go to
learn the photo processing method.
I highly recommend this for the intermediate to advanced photographers, or someone who’s very well versed about their specific camera.
Very enjoyable day and came away with the knowledge that I was seeking. Excellent effort by all.
Hi Tristan & Mona,
Thanks for the additional notes, will need to go through them slowly, and it will certainly help getting my photoshop skills up to date.
Also special thanks for the great day we spent on Saturday, while not all of what you were teaching was new to me, I was able to glean if not improve some of what I like to do, or have been doing. certainly a top day for someone who is new to studio lighting and photography, I certainly enjoyed the posing tips etc from Mona, certainly enjoyed the creativity of her dress design, make up and hair. well done. a very enjoyable day.
